In a salon or spa the air shares the room with products, dryers and steam: how its ducts are checked
A salon or spa combines open work stations and closed treatment rooms, and each one calls for looking at the air with a different criterion.
Duct cleaning in a beauty salon or spa is the camera inspection and cleaning of the inside of the air conditioning ducts serving the work stations and treatment rooms. It is scheduled between appointments and cleaning is done only where the camera shows it is needed. Extractors and steam equipment are handled separately.
What sets beauty salons and spas apart
Facts that help decide in beauty salons and spas
- In Panama: The Ministry of Health guide for beauty salons and barbershops (August 2020) asked that workplaces be kept ventilated, without sudden drafts, and that air conditioning receive proper maintenance, with more frequent filter cleaning. It was written for post COVID-19 operations. (MINSA, Guide of health measures for beauty salons and barbershops (2020))
- Technical fact: s2OSHA’s page on nail salons says that, if the salon has no exhaust system, the air conditioning should stay on during work, with the thermostat fan switch in the “on” position. It adds that the owner should have a contractor clean the system and replace the filters at least once a year. (s2OSHA, Health Hazards in Nail Salons: Chemical Hazards)

Frequently asked questions
Are appointments lost on the day of the inspection?
The work is agreed with the appointment book in view. A slot with few appointments or a closing day is chosen, whichever the premises prefers.
Does the inspection include nail or steam extractors?
No. This inspection covers the air conditioning ducts. Extractors and steam equipment are a different review and are noted as not included.
What is done about product odors?
A camera is used to see whether the inside of the ducts holds dust or moisture, and the report records what was seen. The source of an odor may be elsewhere in the premises.
Is a hotel spa handled the same way?
It is coordinated with the hotel management to learn which units serve the spa and which belong to the building.
How often does it make sense to check the ducts in beauty salons and spas?
There is no fixed frequency. It makes sense to look when odors or moisture persist in treatment rooms or stations, and after changing equipment or remodeling the premises.
What does the report include for beauty salons and spas?
It brings photographs of the inside of the ducts. It is organized by station or treatment room and separates what was observed from what falls outside this inspection.
